How do Entrepreneurs Define Success?

Financial freedom, family time, loving the work you do, the opportunity to give back. Entrepreneurs start businesses for any number of reasons. It’s a very personal decision, which also means that success is different for every business owner. Our panel is comprised of successful entrepreneurs who have mastered their own definition of success. Each has confronted obstacles and devised solutions to overcome them, and they each have guidance to share for all women looking to move their business its next platform.

Kathy founded her company, 360 Insurance Services, LLC, in 2009. Kathy’s insurance-industry experience includes her ten years as Vice President of the Long Island Association Health Alliance where she was instrumental in developing New York’s first Health Exchange. In 2012 she was named to the New York Regional Health Benefit Exchange Advisory Board.

Kathy and Gina Motisi are the Co-Director of Professional Development at SCWBEC. Together they secured the speakers and ascertained the format for this panel program.

Our Panelists

Lina Gottesman, President of Altus Metal & Marble, is a certified WBE business owner. She has performed restorations for numerous prominent buildings in the metropolitan area. Her a new venture, RN Nurses Evolve PLLC, was created to provide Contract Advanced Practice Registered Nurses to the industry in response to the unprecedented demand for Nurse Practitioners and Registered Nurses. Lina has been honored by the Regional Alliance for Small Contractors and the Port Authority of NY/NJ.  She serves on the board of the NY Women’s Agenda, is the Chair of the NY Women’s Chamber of Commerce, and is Treasurer on the Board at the LI Center for Business and Professional Women.

Melanie Rasmussen is a proud, self-taught entrepreneur who started Reach for the Stars Tutoring, Inc. over 14 years ago. She has a right to be proud as her background is in special education, and the only business class she ever took was in high school where she learned to balance a checkbook. Today she manages a staff of over 50 teachers who provide academic tutoring and music lessons for students of all ages. Through networking, Melanie surrounded herself with people she could trust to help her learn, allowing her to focus on what she does best – educating students, building relationships, customer service, and growing her business.

TAMALA BALDWIN (Writer/Executive Producer) Tamala Baldwin, Executive Producer of Bubbly Brown Sugar, is the CEO of Soul Kisses Productions LLC, a strategic studio that combines the power of digital strategy, and video content creation, with offices in Suffolk County and New York City. Her communications specialty is in social marketing, branding and event planning. Tamala worked with AARP for three years as media spokesperson, technology educator, and presentation trainer. Tamala has worked with Billboard Charting artists like Justin Timberlake, 50 Cent, Mandy Moore, and Snoop Dogg; with major record labels like Warner Brothers, Columbia, Universal and for mega brands such as Energizer, Vans, Photobucket, Myspace, and Eventful throughout her career. In 2011, she launched the award-winning Soul Kisses TV, which features visionaries, celebrities and other change-agents using their position of influence for good.

Elizabeth Martin’s business is Hands On Acupuncture & Massage Therapy PC. Since becoming a business owner, she has strived to balance running a multi-employee operation and being a mindful mom of young kids. Elizabeth mastered her own definition of success – the perfect combination of time and money. Through teaching advocacy for women empowerment, she shares her success within the MOMprenueur community using medical Qi Gong meditations, mindset, and business strategies to leverage a solution to fit their individual needs.
